Govt Injects Rs 351 Crore In Startups Under Seed Fund Scheme — Maharashtra Leads The Way

The Startup India Seed Fund Scheme has disbursed over Rs 351 crore to 2,647 startups as of January 2025. Maharashtra emerged as the top beneficiary state, receiving the highest funding and number of supported startups under the scheme.
The Startup India Seed Fund Scheme under the Commerce Ministry has disbursed Rs 351 crore to 2,647 startups as of January 31, 2025, according to official data.
Launched in April 2021, the scheme provides financial assistance to startups through selected incubators. The funding supports startups for proof of concept, prototype development, product trials, market entry, and commercialization.
The scheme was launched with a total corpus of Rs 945 crore for four years. It has selected 217 incubators with an approved funding of Rs 917 crore, of which Rs 493.2 crore has been released so far.
According to Minister of State for Commerce Jitin Prasada, Rs 487 crore has been approved for 2,647 startups, with Rs 351.5 crore already disbursed under the scheme.
An Expert Advisory Committee selects incubators, which then form Incubator Seed Management Committees (ISMCs) to evaluate and support startups for seed funding.
State-wise data shows that Maharashtra received the highest support under the scheme. Incubators in the state selected 470 startups with funding of Rs 62 crore.
Karnataka followed with 344 startups receiving Rs 58.7 crore, Tamil Nadu with 262 startups receiving Rs 34.2 crore, Uttar Pradesh with 190 startups receiving Rs 22.7 crore, and Gujarat with 187 startups receiving Rs 22.5 crore.
